1984

August 11-19, 2017

” Sometimes, when the stars are aligned just right, the choices match up with the evening news. Such is the case with the current production directed by Christopher Lupia.” – Tony Curulla, syracuse.com

1984 is based on the dystopian novel by English author George Orwell. It is set in Airstrip One (formerly known as Great Britain), a province of the superstate Oceania in a world of perpetual war, omnipresent government surveillance, and public manipulation, dictated by a political system under the control of a privileged elite of the Inner Party, that persecutes individualism and independent thinking as “thoughtcrime.” The tyranny is epitomised by Big Brother, the party leader. Little do they realize that Big Brother is always watching.
